This week we head back to the Sunshine State which boasts 177 state parks and 195 craft breweries to explore!  We’re going to zero in on the hamlet of Dunedin and explore with Jan O’Brien who recently visited and did some wandering.

 

 

Dunedin (pronounced DONE-EE-DIN) is a city in Pinellas County, Florida on the Gulf coast about 24 miles north of St. Petersburg. Two Scotsman who applied for the first post office in North Pinellas County in 1899 named the town, which is derived from Dùn Èideann, the Scottish Gaelic name for Edinburgh.

Scottish families originally settled Dunedin and by 1913 the population was 350.  Today Dunedin has 36,545 residents (2017).

Dunedin embraces and maintains it Scottish roots and that influence can be seen and felt throughout the town.
