Prior to the 19th Century the Back Bay was literally a bay but was filled to add more territory to Boston town. Today the area is home to exquisitely preserved brownstones, the broad green space of the tree-lined Commonwealth Avenue, great food, drinks, and shopping along Newbury Street and the business, hotels, and urban activities of Boylston Street. This shot was taken atop the Prudential Tower, the city's tallest and most recognizable building.
