The Carriage Roads in Acadia National Park were the brainchild of industrialist & philanthropist (and landscape design enthusiast) John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Built in the early part of the last century, the roads and bridges are for the public use and the 45+ miles host some of the most scenic spots on Mount Desert Island. Perfect for hikers, bicyclist, horse riders, and horse-drawn carriages on the island. This diverse network of woodland roads were, in part, inspired by Fredrick Law Olmstead‘s Central Park in NYCwhere carriages and automobiles were preferably separated. Today, it’s a great place to wander. Get out and #FindYourPark
